Transportation Calendar

General Rules Regarding School Busing in Long Island:

• Residents of Long Island are entitled to school busing if:

1. Your school is within 15 miles of your home.

2. Your child will be five years old by December 1st of the year he is starting school. (For the 2023-2024 school year, the child must be five years old by December 1, 2023.)

• The deadline for signing up for busing is usually around April 1st prior to the start of the school year. For example, if you want busing for the 2023-24 school year, you must have signed up for the busing by April 1, 2023  (in most districts).

• If you are moving to a new neighborhood in Long Island, you have only 30 days from the time you close or sign a lease to sign up for busing.

• For some districts you can enroll a child for busing online if the child has been previously enrolled for busing with that district.

• The first time a student is being enrolled, in any district, you must go down to the transportation office for that district with a lot of documentation.  This will include the child's original birth certificate along with proof of residency. (Call your district to make sure you have what you need before going there.)
